In 2013, cinema essayist Mark Cousins made a short trip to Albania at the invite of Albanian filmmakers Iris Elezi and Thomas Logoreci. The inspiration and concerns that followed his five day journey, brought forth HERE BE DRAGONS, an exploration of Albanian cinema and the idea of memory, capturing the time of the past dictatorship and its impact on Albania’s moving images, history and its people. HERE BE DRAGONS premiered at the Telluride Film Festival and had its European opening at the BFI’s London Film Festival.

This Albanian Cinematheque screening is organized in collaboration with Die Angewandte – The University of Applied Arts Vienna and Destil Creative Hub.

It will be presented by Cinematheque director Iris Elezi and programmer Thomas Logoreci in conversation with Mamica Burda (TU Wien), Anna Gulinska, Zsusza Peter and Sam Chermayeff (Die Angewandte), as well as international students.
