The Tirana European Youth Film Festival (TEYFF), is a non-profit initiative that aims to open a new window into European cinema in Tirana. TEYFF is back with its highly anticipated second edition, set to take place from September 5-10, 2024. This year, the festival will once again bring the art of European cinema to Tirana, with a dedicated platform that shines a spotlight on debut filmmakers and their remarkable work.
This year’s edition features a diverse selection of nine films in competition from countries including France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Kosovo, Serbia, Albania, and Portugal. These films will be judged by a distinguished jury comprising Isa Qosja, Rovena Lule, and Giacomo Abbruzzese. Awards will be presented for Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Picture, Best Screenplay, and the Audience Award. In
addition to the competition, TEYFF will offer special screenings of critically acclaimed films, including Proka by Isa Qosja, Discoboy by Giacomo Abbruzzese, and Rendez-vous a Tirana by Liri Begeja. Each screening will be followed by open discussions, allowing audiences to engage directly with the filmmakers, gaining deeper insights into their creative processes and the stories behind their work.
TEYFF is also dedicated to nurturing future cinematic talents through a series of masterclasses, talks, forums led by industry professionals: Isa Qosja on “The making of Proka(1985): crafting a debut feature film,” alongside other insightful sessions focused on the challenges and triumphs of creating a first feature film. The festival’s youth-oriented mission extends beyond filmmaking, as TEYFF also empowers its team of volunteers, providing them with opportunities to express their ideas, engage with film directors, and even take the stage to conduct interviews.
The festival will take place at three venues: Agimi Art Center, Kinema Maks Velo, and the Pyramid of Tirana which will serve as an open-air cinema. These locations offer a unique blend of tradition and modernity, enhancing the festival experience. The entry is free for everyone. TEYFF also invites attendees to enjoy a variety of social events, including cocktails and parties, designed to create a warm and engaging atmosphere where filmmakers and film enthusiasts can connect and share their love of cinema.
The slogan of this year’s festival, “Every filmmaker remembers their first time in Tirana,” underscores our commitment not only to promoting new directors but also to positioning Tirana as a potential location for future film projects. By doing so, TEYFF aims to enhance the city’s profile as not just a tourist destination but also a vibrant hub for cinematic creativity.
